We have a new wireless network?
Yes we do! We have been progressively deploying a new wireless network throughout council to improve both connectivity, as well as stability. This is part of our commitment to continuously improving council connectivity and changing the way we do business.
When will the new wireless network be fully functional?
Well actually it is ready to use now. Some staff have already manually connected and have been using it.
Information Services will be automatically deploying the new wireless network profiles required so devices connect without you having to manually connect it within the next few days.
How do I know which wireless network to connect to?
The new wireless network for staff corporate devices to connect to is “CHRC – Corporate”.
The old wireless network is “CHRC – Staff”. This network is being decommissioned as part of the corporate wireless upgrade project.
You may also see in your list of networks “CHRC – Corporate Workstation”. This one automatically connects your wireless computer to the council network when you are not logged in. This helps us push software or security updates to your device when you are not logged in. Once you log in, your wireless will automatically switch to “CHRC – Corporate” as the preferred network. You need not worry about this one, we’ll handle it.
What devices can be used on the new corporate wireless?
Council issued laptops and smart devices (iPhones and iPads)
Personal devices, and external contractor devices are not permitted on the “CHRC – Corporate” network. Nah mate, you can’t stream the cricket on your phone all day.
Great news! There is a new “CHRC – Corporate Guest” network coming very soon! Authorised users will be able to connect to this network and gain internet access only, such as a contractor coming in for a few days that needs their laptop connected to the internet to access their files remotely. Stay tuned…
Umm… Who should I contact if I have issues connecting to the corporate wireless?
Information Services Service Desk – Either by email / phone / service desk portal / or in person.
Donald Trump – “We’re gonna make wireless great again...”
